A: Your Birkman Signature Certification experience can be used toward:
International Coach Federation (ICF) – Continuing Coach Education (CCE)
Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) – Professional Development Credits (PDCs)
Q: What is ICF Continuing Coach Education (CCE)?
A: The ICF (International Coach Federation) is the worldwide leader in development and credentialing for professional coaches. ICF has three different levels of Individual Credentials that may be awarded:
Associate Certified Coach (ACC)
Professional Certified Coach (PCC)
Master Certified Coach (MCC)
Please click on the links above to see details on ICF Credential criteria and how to submit your application. Continuing Coach Education (CCE) is considered supplemental and advanced education for those wishing to acquire new learning and/or those who are renewing their ICF Credential.
Birkman Signature Certification is an accredited CCE training program, so anyone who attended Birkman Signature Certification after January 1, 2017 can be awarded CCE units to use toward achieving or renewing their ICF Credential.
ICF divides Coach Continuing Education into two categories based on the learning content: Core Competencies CCE and Resource Development CCE.
Birkman Signature Certification—ICF CCE hours awarded:
Core Competencies: 5 hours
Resource Development: 23 hours
For reference, 40 total CCE hours are required over the course of three years to renew an ICF Credential, with at least 24 hours in Core Competencies.

Q: What are SHRM Professional Development Credits (PDCs)?
A: The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is the world’s largest HR professional society, and SHRM Certification is a leading way for HR professionals to distinguish themselves in their field.
SHRM has two different levels of credentials that may be awarded:
Professional Development Credits (PDCs) can be used by SHRM-CPs and SHRM-SCPs to recertify themselves.
Birkman Signature Certification is an accredited SHRM Recertification Provider, so anyone who attended Birkman Signature Certification after August 9, 2017 can be awarded PDCs to use toward renewing their SHRM Credential. Signature Certification is classified as a “Seminar/Workshop” by SHRM.
Birkman Signature Certification awards: 28 PDCs
For reference, 60 total PDCs are required over the course of three years to renew a SHRM credential.

Q: I am already a Birkman Certified Professional. How can I take Birkman to the next level?
A. We offer Advanced status to Birkman Professionals that meet the guidelines for that level. Typically, Birkman Advanced Professionals have been Birkman Certified for 2+ years, completed 25+ conversations, and acquired 30+ hours of professional development after certification. Part of that professional development must be one of our Advanced training series classes.
At the top of the of the Birkman Certified Professionals spectrum is our Master designation. These are individuals who have gone above and beyond in learning how to use The Birkman Method in very difficult, sensitive situations. The requirements to be eligible for status as a Master Birkman Certified Professional require at least 5 years of Birkman Certification, or a professional degree in a related field, such as a MS in Psychology or a PhD in Education. Candidates should also have 50+ hours of professional development and have completed 50 Birkman conversations.
