How accurate is the Birkman assessment?

The Birkman Method assessment is accurate. The assessment's high test-retest reliability ensures consistent results over time, while its high internal consistency reliability reflects strong correlations among the assessment's questions, yielding reliable measurement of traits. These two types of reliability establish the assessment's overall accuracy and dependability.

Is The Birkman Method valid?

Yes, The Birkman Method assessment is valid. The assessment's content covers the intended construct domains of interest through research-based development, ensuring content validity. It demonstrates its face validity through the subjective evaluation of the constructs measured by its respondents. Additionally, the assessment demonstrates convergent construct validity and divergent construct validity, respectively, by positively correlating with similar measures and negatively correlating with measures of unrelated constructs. Lastly, The Birkman Method has criterion-related validity through established relationships with various work-related outcomes, such as job performance, career satisfaction, leadership effectiveness, and team dynamics. These five types of validity together establish the assessment's overall validity.

How long does the Birkman assessment take?

The questionnaire should take about 30 minutes to complete. You can leave the questionnaire and return to your place if interrupted. The ideal condition for taking the test is when you have both the time and energy to do so.

How does The Birkman Method work?

The Birkman Method combines motivational, behavioral, and interests evaluation into one single self-assessment and is used for talent selection and alignment, talent development, team performance, and leadership development. Our reporting and workshops provide insight into effective behavioral styles, expectations of relationships and social situations, possible stressors when needs are not met, and job preferences and motivators.

What do the Birkman Colors mean?

Birkman outlines four unique archetypes. Red, or the Doer, represents a climate of action, energy, and practicality. Green, or the Communicator, represents socialization and responsiveness. Yellow, or the Analyzer, represents planning, fairness, and objectivity. Blue, or the Thinker, represents reflection, sensing, and expression. Each Birkman Color represents a different climate of personality.

Can you fail the Birkman test?

There are no "wrong" answers. Therefore, you cannot fail. Respond with your gut response to the questions. The Birkman Method assessment is based on positive psychology and doesn't judge any behavioral style as more or less preferred than others. If you come across a question you aren't sure about the answer to, use your first reaction and don't overthink the question. We promise it's not that serious!

Can I cheat the assessment to get positive results?

No. The Birkman Method assessment doesn’t give positive or negative results. We’re about positive psychology, which is the study of the strengths and virtues that enable individuals and communities to thrive–allowing you and your teams to flourish. Our assessment reveals your perceptions of the world, and that’s why complete honesty gives you accurate results.

What languages are available?

The Birkman Method is available in 25 languages: 

Arabic, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, Danish, Dutch, English UK, English US, Finnish, French Canadian, French European, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Castilian Spanish, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, and Vietnamese.

Because of this, you can authorize a questionnaire in one language, and receive the report in a different language.

How do you read Birkman results?

If you have taken the assessment and are looking for your Birkman Signature Report, a Birkman Certified Professional is required to interpret your results due to the depth and complexity of the data. The Basics and Careertyping Reports are self-interpreted with key, brief takeaways on your personality.

Organizations looking to use our tools must become certified or work with one of our Birkman Certified Professionals to interpret results, facilitate workshops, or have meaningful conversations.

Do I need to be certified to use Birkman?

To use Birkman reports, you must be The Birkman Method certified. This is simply because the information provided in our reports is robust and data-focused. The Birkman Method Certification course provides information about the scales and the implications of scores to help you facilitate better conversations. The Birkman Method Certification experience can be used toward International Coach Federation (ICF) – Continuing Coach Education (CCE) and Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) – Professional Development Credits (PDCs).

If you would like to facilitate a High-Performing Teams workshop for your team, you must purchase a license, which will give you access to workshop materials and a long-term action plan for incorporating the concepts within the team.
