As evidenced by her high physical energy, Louise Menlo has lived in numerous countries and traveled widely. Early on, her interests in arts, literature along with science and technology, kept her occupied in diverse aspects of life. Over 50 years ago, she worked as a clinician in Speech Pathology-Audiology, spent time chairing a university dept, and running a teaching clinic in the same field. At the time, she also started to combine clinical work with Organizational Development and Cognitive Perception, expanding to include families, private clients, and companies.
Her interests in gemology led her to the mines of Brazil, where she returned to complete work as a jewelry designer and manufacturer, culminating in opening a jewelry design business in Austin, Texas, and Paris, France, where she won a design prize.
Midway in “life,” she connected with Barry Lovelace. Together, they formed Compass Settings, Ltd., which uses the Birkman Method to improve communication, performance, decision-making, reduce tension, and increase family and organizational harmony. Coming full circle from her early years, Compass has been focusing on work with Neurotypical Individuals, those on The Autism Spectrum at the university level (Texas Tech, Landmark, SUNY at Purchase), and non-profits providing internships in the workplace as well as State Agencies.
Her latest endeavors include developing workshops focused on cognitive processes using the continuing new advances in neuroscience. She is also exploring how incorporating Virtual Reality Techniques enhances cognitive functioning and affects the body budget’s predictability.
