Barry Lovelace has been around the block several times. His most current undertaking is Compass Settings, a consulting firm that uses the Birkman Method to improve communication and performance for firms and businesses, and individuals. He began using the Birkman several years ago with students at the Burkhart Center on Autism at Texas Tech University. This unique program is designed to help Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) students matriculate. Based on the Tech experience, Compass expanded its work with students on the Spectrum and now supports over 350 Counselors serving over 700 clients annually.
Prior to that, he was involved in a potpourri of engagements in the public, academic and private sectors, such as working for five governors in three states, running a research program at a public policy school, and starting several successful restaurants.
He completed undergraduate studies at St. Louis University – where he met his wife of 58 years – and shortly thereafter an M.S. in Urban Studies at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee. He is also a Birkman Master Certified Professional.
He and his wife, Joann, have two kids and two grandkids. He has co-authored a book on gardening (in Central Texas) and papers and monographs ranging from ensuring safe drinking water to computer usage in police patrolling, urban redevelopment policies, and services to ASD students in college.
