What does Compensatory Strength mean? It’s about finding another natural strength that can help achieve the desired results when the first Component choice isn’t working.
There are times when a behavior typically associated with a specific Component is desired. For example, a client’s role may require them to be authoritative, yet a score of 4 on Usual Assertiveness doesn’t help in this area. Even if they stretch their behavior, they still may not be able to execute what’s needed.
So what can you do to coach the desired behavior? Look elsewhere within a Birkman report!
Perhaps the client has another Usual Behavior score that can be utilized to get similar results. For example, leveraging a high Usual Insistence score could be a way to come from another angle. Instead of using the power of dominant conversation, they can rely on procedures and structures (Insistence) to achieve the desired results.
Learn how to coach your clients to lean on other Birkman Components when one is not working for them.
